Job Function
Support the Director in managing the portfolio encompassing strategic financial planning, budgeting, and consolidation. This position is part of the Strategic Finance team and plays a critical role in driving financial performance and strategic decision-making. The role integrates corporate strategy into the forward-looking business plan and provides strategic financial advice to senior leaders across Hydro One’s lines of business, addressing financial impacts and outcomes.
Specific Accountabilities
Planning & Forecasting:
- Lead a team of Financial Advisors and Analysts to provide key support to the corporate multi-year business planning and budgeting process.
- Oversee the development of key planning assumptions, the implementation of regulatory requirements, and the identification of emerging issues and trends.
- Develop instructions and guidelines for forecasting, consolidating results and reporting.
- Provide advice, guidance, and coaching on strategic financial planning, consolidation, mergers and acquisitions, and budgeting.
- Guide the team in building and maintaining financial models, performing financial analysis, and creating data visualizations to assess and track business performance.
- Identify financial risks and opportunities and communicate insights to senior leadership.
- Ensure the integrity of business planning, financial and regulatory reporting processes.
- Support regulatory applications with evidence preparation and provide input into various expert studies.
- Act as a key business partner by translating financial data into strategic recommendations that support the delivery of corporate strategy and multi-year business objectives.
Reporting & Analysis:
- Prepare and provide analytical support to business leaders to inform financial, budgetary, and policy decisions.
- Lead the team to report on corporate costs through monthly, quarterly, and annual results, identifying trends and explaining variances from budgets.
- Partner with senior management by conducting in-depth financial analysis, identifying key trends, variances, and risks, and presenting actionable insights.
- Develop and monitor KPIs to track business performance and provide insights to leadership.
- Prepare comprehensive financial reports, presentations, and dashboards for stakeholders and the Executive Leadership Team.
- Drive continuous process improvement and efficiency in financial modelling and analysis by leveraging financial systems and tools, including AI and automation.
Selection Criteria
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or Economics.
- Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) or Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation.
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in financial planning or a related field within Finance.
- Experience in a regulated utility industry.
- At least 5 years of experience managing a team.
- Proven proficiency in financial modeling, budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis.
- Strong data analytics and visualization skills, with proficiency in Power BI and advanced Excel (required).
- Experience with programming languages such as SQL or Python is an asset.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to translate complex financial information into clear and compelling insights for senior executive audiences.
- Demonstrated record of process improvement and automation initiatives.
- Strong business acumen, analytical thinking, and collaborative leadership skills.
