Role Description

The Human Resources Business Lead (HRBL) is a member of a senior HR leadership team responsible for providing a high level of thought leadership, guidance, and advice to business leaders across Hydro One. The HRBL acts as a strategic partner, serving as a consultant to a client group, inclusive of 1-2 members of the Hydro One Executive Leadership Team and their direct reports. The role assesses and anticipates HR and business-related needs and assists in the development of people strategies to influence outcomes and achieve desired business goals. The position formulates partnerships enterprise-wide to deliver value-added service, especially with HR function specialists in Talent Acquisition, Talent Management, Learning & Development, Employee Engagement and Compensation.

This role reports to the Director, Business HR and will be responsible for leading a team of HR Business Partners. This role will be accountable for one or more business function portfolio(s).

Client Support:

  • Using strong business and financial acumen, be a trusted advisor and provide thoughtful recommendations and change management leadership for sustainable solutions
  • Provide strategic HR consultation and support on any/all HR and business initiatives to drive value, growth and employee engagement
  • Support the Executive Leadership Team and their direct reports in defining future state operating models, operating capabilities and designing organizational structures and talent plans
  • Provide executive level leadership development and coaching to help unlock potential and ensure Hydro One executives have the desired skills to drive performance and uphold the company’s vision, strategy and values
  • Develop and recommend strategies to meet specific business unit requirements in response to corporate initiatives and senior executive requests
  • Provide advice and assistance on the interpretation, application and administration of human resource policies, procedures and practices
  • Support business and workforce planning activities

Business HR Team:

  • Partner with the Director, Business HR and HRLT to shape the HR Strategy, providing input from a business perspective to ensure the strategy meets the needs and priorities of the business
  • Champion the HR Operating Model by ensuring the activation and deployment of talent programs across the business
  • Manage and provide leadership to a team of Business HR Professionals in support of comprehensive client service offerings in areas such as labour and employee relations, talent acquisition, talent management, performance management, training and development, and compensation and benefits
  • Develop and recommend strategies for improvement to increase productivity and efficiencies in the Business HR team, HR function and broader organization
  • Manage escalations not resolved at the Senior HRBP level

Enterprise-wide initiatives:

  • May participate in and/or lead special projects as assigned
  • Oversee project activities and workflow with appropriate assignment and prioritization of work, as required
  • Maintain and support a culture of appropriate risk management and mitigation
  • Ensure prompt and thorough resolution of any/all escalated issues
  • Identify, address and report on risk issues as per Hydro One policy and procedure
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred Education and Experience

  • 10+ years of demonstrated experience as a Human Resources professional, with experience working in a unionized setting; minimum 7 years in a HR Business Partner role or equivalent
  • University degree in Industrial Relations or Human Resources Management, or combination of education and relevant experience
  • Demonstrated success providing HR consultative support to leaders across multiple levels, including executive leadership
  • Excellent leadership, interpersonal, influencing, facilitation and communication skills with the ability to work across functional lines at many levels
  • A proven change agent, with the ability to lead others through change and influence adoption by leaders and stakeholders at senior levels
  • Proven experience leading/managing a team of HR professionals, with the ability to attract, retain and develop talent to be their best
  • Keen interest in continual learning and staying current on key trends in the HR and business industries, leveraging insights to create and implement solutions
  • Collaborative team player, supporting other members of the team in achieving business objectives and providing optimal solutions
  • Comfort operating in ambiguity and navigating complex scenarios, adapting with agility while staying focused on the end goal
