In-house law department (practice includes litigation, corporate and commercial, employment, regulatory, real estate, administrative, pension, and securities law) requires two (2) Articling Students for the 2026-2027 articling term. One position will be strictly litigation focused.
Job Duties:
Position #1 (General): General Articling Student (2026-2027)
Throughout the year the student will divide their time among the following areas in these approximate percentages, which may vary depending on the lawyers’ needs and workload: Litigation 25%, Corporate/Commercial 40%, Securities 25% and Real Estate 15%.
There will be no organized system of rotation through the practice areas as the student will work in all areas throughout the term of articles.
- The student will prepare legal memoranda advising supervising lawyers of the results of research and other tasks performed.
- The student will also assist in the preparation of reporting letters advising clients of the status of various matters and assist in the preparation of opinion letters to clients under the supervision of the instructing lawyer.
- Depending on the nature of the matter, the student may report on matters directly to the client by telephone or by letter after consultation with the instructing lawyer.
- The student will also assist our law clerks in the administration of Small Claims Court cases and, providing the opportunity is available, will conduct Small Claims Court trials.
- The student will assist in other aspects of the litigation practice, such as attending examinations for discovery with the instructing lawyer, attend motions and trials.
- The student will also work on corporate/commercial matters and assist with due diligence.
Position #2 (Litigation): Litigation Articling Student (2026-2027)
Throughout the year the student will assist and support the department’s litigation team (lawyers and law clerks). The litigation student’s time is expected to be 100% litigation. The type of work may vary depending on the lawyers’ needs and workload,
- The student will prepare legal memoranda advising supervising lawyers of the results of research and other tasks performed.
- The student will also assist in the preparation of reporting letters advising clients of the status of various matters and assist in the preparation of opinion letters to clients under the supervision of the instructing lawyer.
- Depending on the nature of the matter, the student may report on matters directly to the client by telephone or by letter after consultation with the instructing lawyer.
- The student will also assist our law clerks in the administration of Small Claims Court cases and, providing the opportunity is available, will attend Settlement Conferences, motions, and conduct Small Claims Court trials.
- The student will assist in all aspects of the litigation practice, such as attending and supporting files before the Superior Court of Justice, including attending and preparing for examinations for discovery, motions and trials, with the instructing lawyer. Where appropriate, the student may also attend and argue procedural motions.
Salary (for both positions): $70,000.00 per annum pro-rated over 10 months
