POSITION: OCCUPATIONAL THERAPIST
Community Stroke Rehabilitation Team
Primary site: Stratford and Seaforth

POSITION SUMMARY: Using the principles of person-centered care, the occupational therapist is responsible for providing services to referred stroke clients in a variety of settings, with a focus on cognition, perception, community integration and attaining optimal recovery in the areas of self-care, productivity and leisure. As well, the occupational therapist will ensure optimal independence and safety in the home and return to or development of new activities and roles that are important to the client. They will also provide client-specific consultation and education/training/in-services related to stroke rehabilitation for service providers, caregivers and families.
REPORTS TO: Manager, District Stroke Program & Dialysis
DATE REQUIRED: As soon as possible
SALARY: $39.19 to $54.66 per hour
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education:
- Degree in Occupational Therapy from a Canadian Association of Occupational Therapists’ (CAOT) accredited university programme.
- Current registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of Ontario (COTO).
- Eligibility for membership in the CAOT.
- MoCA (Montreal Cognitive Assessment) Certification
Experience:
- Clinical expertise and experience in stroke rehabilitation and demonstrated knowledge of current stroke rehabilitation best practices
- Experience in both hospital and community service delivery is an asset
Abilities:
- Demonstrated ability to practice effectively in an inter-professional collaborative environment
- Sound understanding of the role of a variety of rehabilitation professionals in the provision of stroke rehabilitation
- Working knowledge of and experience with theories and principles guiding adult learning and patient self-management approaches
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, organizational, time management, problem solving and innovation skills
- Proven flexibility and a high level of initiative
- Evidence of continued professional growth and/or professional development
- Appreciation of resource utilization
- ADP certification preferred
- Computer skills, particularly Meditech, MS Office, and/or other software
- Current Basic Life Support certification
