ROLE

The Registered Nurse (RN) is a valued member of the interdisciplinary team within the department and organization. They are responsible for the coordination and delivery of quality patient care by assessing and identifying patient needs, implementing and monitoring the patients’ medical plan, and following HPHA policies and procedures. Additionally, the Registered Nurse must follow nursing processes within the profession’s and licensures scope of practice. They will provide education and support to patients and family members.

REQUIRED EDUCATION & CERTIFICATION(S)

  • Current registered member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • BLS required
  • Chemotherapy and Biotherapy Provincial Standardized Course

REQUIRED SKILLS & EXPERIENCE(S)

  • Ability to perform venepuncture, blood transfusion, assist physician with medical procedures
  • Demonstrated proficiency in central line management and vascular access devices an asset
  • Participates in annual upgrades in oncology nursing skills and certification courses
  • Ability to plan, prioritize and problem solve in a fast-paced environment
  • Demonstrates respectful behaviour and communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member
  • Demonstrates knowledge and commitment to patient and staff safety
  • Working knowledge of Meditech Information System and personal computer applications preferred
  • Ability to provide patient/family education and emotional support
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development

DESIRED SKILLS, EXPERIENCE(S) & EDUCATION

  • Recent clinical experience (minimum 2 years) in Critical Care, Emergency, Chemotherapy and/or Medicine preferred
  • Experience administering chemotherapy and/or nursing in the oncology area preferred
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) or recognized equivalent
  • Certified Oncology Nursing Certificate CON (C)
  • DeSouza Oncology certification
