We invite applications for the position of Communication Disorders Assistant (CDA).
Reporting to our Superintendent of Education, the CDA will provide communication screenings and implement communication intervention programs based on the program/plan determined by the Speech Language Pathologists (SLP). This is a temporary, full-time position commencing immediately and ending on June 26, 2026 working thirty-seven and one-half (37.5) hours per week from the Catholic Education Centre in Dublin, Ontario.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Support the recommendations made by the SLP regarding speech and language programs/plans for students with communication disorders including students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
- Preparation of therapy materials to assist the SLP planning therapy for students with communication disorders
- Participate in meetings as requested by the Superintendent of Education and/or Principal/Vice Principal
- Create communication and literacy materials to support a student's communication and/or literacy development.
- Model a variety of speech, language and communication facilitation strategies
- Collect data and prepare reports as requested by the Superintendent of Education
- Provide direct individual and small-group intervention to students in need of speech and language therapy throughout our Board.
- Support school teams with the maintenance and effective use of assistive technology for communication purposes, including augmentative and alternative communication aids, hearing aids, and FM system.
- Communicate and collaborate effectively with SLPs, Principals, Vice Principals, Learning Coordination team members, System Special Education team members and school staff members
- Demonstrate accountability for CDA professional practice standards and in accordance with established board policies and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent of Education.
- A post graduate diploma or certificate in Communicative Disorders Assistant.
- Current registration in good standing with the Communicative Disorders Assistant Association of Canada.
- A minimum of two (2) years of recent related experience is required; preferable in an educational environment and/or public sector.
- Membership in good standing with the Communication Disorders Assistants Association of Canada (CDAAC)
- Exceptional interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills
- Proven accuracy and attention to detail.
- Demonstrated knowledge of Applied Behavioural Analysis and its relevance in the field of communication disorders
- Strong customer service orientation, initiative and ability to exercise judgment in difficult situations.
- Ability to perform well independently and as a member of a team.
- Computer skills including Google Workspace and Microsoft Office.
- A valid class G (or higher) Ontario driver's licence and a reliable vehicle, this position requires use of own vehicle.
- Competitive compensation - $34.30/hour
