 At Humber River Health, the Infection Prevention and Control team prevent and address potential infections risks in compliance with Provincial Infections Diseases Advisory Committee (PIDAC) requirements.

We are currently seeking an Infection Prevention and Control Practitioner to work for our Infection Prevention & Control (IPAC) department.

Employee Status:  Full Time

Reporting Relationship: Manager, Infection Prevention and ControlHours of work: Primarily days - Monday to Friday with flexibility to meet needs of the department (schedules may change based on operational needs).

Hourly Rate:   $41.31 - $58.81

Reporting Relationship: Manager Infection Prevention and Control

Location:  Primarily Wilson Site-may be required to visit all Humber River Health Sites.

Union:  ONA

Position Responsibilities:

  • Perform surveillance and investigation under Infection Prevention and Control Coordinators direction at each site applying epidemiological principles.
  • Document data on infections identified, calculate rates and report findings to Infection Control Coordinators.
  • Assists Infection Control Coordinators in Investigation and management of communicable/infectious disease clusters and outbreaks for all sites.
  • Integrate relevant public health issues into practice.
  • Is responsible, in coordination with the Infection Control Coordinators and Departmental Managers, for auditing staff compliance to the Infection Control guidelines
  • Promotes the professional standards of Practice related to Infections Control, and functions within the policies and procedures of the Hospital.
  • Maintains an awareness of program/Hospital Continuous Quality Improvement Program. Participates in related activities upon request.
  • Demonstrates commitment to patient focused implementation of infections control standards and guidelines
  • Demonstrates an awareness and sensitivity to the needs of a diverse community.
  • Maintains professional standards as outlined by the respective College, IPAC Canada, and other professional organizations.
  • Demonstrates professional commitment to keep current in all aspects of infection prevention and health promotion.
  • Maintains knowledge of current Hospital and program/service policies and procedures. Ensures compliance and recommends improvements.
  • Improves quality of care by serving as a role model, and educator to others.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Registration with College of Nurses of Ontario, BCLS Certification.
  • Bachelors of science degree in Health or allied Health Sciences, or recognized equivalent
  • A minimum of 3-5 years acute care experience.
  • A current CIC - Certification Board of Infection Control or completion of a recognized Infection Control Course and must achieve CIC certification  within 3 years from date of hire
  • Knowledge of microbiology, epidemiological principles, statistical methods, infectious diseases and patient care principles.
  • Computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet software skills.
  • Annual influenza and other vaccination is required, or in the case of documented medical allergy, commitment to take antiviral/prophylactic therapy for exposures/duration of outbreaks.
  • A highly organized and motivated individual with the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
