Job Responsibilities:
- Support and supervise a unionized workforce within the context of the Collective Agreement.
- Ability to communicate and assign job responsibilities and duties to frontline staff
- Foster effective teamwork and a positive work environment by supporting staff development through guidance, motivation and training
- Apply and assist in verbal de-escalation and crisis prevention strategies to effectively manage and defuse high-tension and potentially volatile situations
- Contribute to staff support following serious incidents by raising awareness of available resources and promoting workplace wellness
- Provide guidance and support to frontline shelter staff and community partners in accordance with Toronto Shelter Standards and Homes First policies and procedures.
- Ability to work effectively with clients, community agencies, general public and/or staff to address service inquiries, request for information, and complaints.
- Ensure appropriate records and controls are maintained with administration of transportation supports and managing shelter supply inventory.
- Help support the implementation of program changes focused on the optimization and continuous improvement of the performances and practices related to shelter service delivery
- Manage employee performance and perform necessary administrative duties such as vacation planning, timekeeping, performance reviews, etc.
- Ensure effective communications with other departments within Homes First Society as well as with external agencies
- Support with data collection, evaluation, and development
- Ensure that all reports and documentation is completed to agency and Shelter Standards
- Be able to work outside work hours when required
- Willing and able to participate in a rotating 24-hour on-call schedule and provide appropriate support to the calling site
- Other duties as required
Qualifications:
- Post-secondary education in related field or equivalent in education and experience
- At least 3 years’ experience working with people who are homeless, under-housed and dealing with addictions and mental illness.
- At least 1 years’ experience supervising unionized staff.
- Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
- Excellent communication, customer service and time management skills
- Demonstrated interpersonal, decision making, conflict management, critical thinking, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of relevant laws, standards and guidelines; including the Toronto Shelter Standards
- Familiarity of the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety, Municipal Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (MFIPPA), and Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA).
- Demonstrated ability to work with 2SLGBTQ+ communities including demonstrated experience integrating anti-racism, anti-oppression and intersectional values and principles into daily practice
- Ability to be self-directed, work independently and manage a varied workload.
- Certificates in First Aid, CPR, Crisis Prevention and Intervention an asset
- Certificate of Completion of Homelessness Learning Hub’s Harm Reduction for the Homelessness Sector considered an asset
- Demonstrated experience working with refugees and newcomers
Working in an environment where there may be smoke is required.
