Location: Split between two downtown sites: 224 Spadina (Monday/Tuesday) Second Site To Be Determined (Saturday/Sunday)

Starting Date: ASAP

Hours of Work: Saturday – Tuesday, Noon-10pm; with some flexibility

We are currently seeking Shift Supervisors to work at two housing programs - our housing program at 224 Spadina for two afternoons a week and a second housing program to be determined (located downtown) two afternoons a week. The successful candidate will start at 224 Spadina and work there full-time until the second site opens.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Supervise a unionized workforce within the context of the Collective Agreement.
  • Provide case management expertise and support to the Community Housing Workers on site
  • Prioritize and assign shift responsibilities and duties to team members
  • Ensure the safety of the tenants and the building through access control, overseeing guests, and regular monitoring of life safety systems
  • Intervene in crises, de-escalate conflicts and respond to tenant emergencies, including overdoses and the administration of Naloxone or oxygen
  • Ensure adherence to Homes First Harm reduction policies
  • Liaise with Property Management and file work orders when necessary for repairs
  • Ensure effective communications with other departments within Homes First Society as well as with external agencies
  • Manage employee performance and perform necessary administrative duties such as timekeeping, performance reviews, etc.
  • Ensure that all documentation is completed to agency standards
  • Assist when necessary in preparing applications to the Landlord and Tenant Board
  • Be able to work occasional weekends and/or evenings, when required
  • Be able to fulfill any element of the Community Housing Worker job description on an as needed basis
  • Be willing and able to carry 24-hour emergency pager on rotation
  • Other responsibilities, as required

Qualifications:

  • Post-secondary education in related field or equivalent in education and experience
  • At least 3 years’ experience working with people who are homeless, under-housed and dealing with addictions and mental illness
  • At least 1 years’ experience in a supervisory role in a unionized environment
  • Demonstrated experience performing case management functions and ability to effectively prioritize work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment
  • Excellent communication, organization and time management skills
  • Supervisory experience in a unionized setting an asset
  • Knowledge of relevant laws, standards and guidelines; including rental legislation in Ontario
  • Knowledge of resources and services available in the community
  • Excellent interpersonal, conflict resolution and organization skills
  • Certificates in First Aid, CPR, Crisis Prevention and Intervention an asset
  • The successful candidate will be required to work where smoking is present.
  • Certificate of Completion of Homelessness Learning Hub’s Harm Reduction for the Homelessness Sector considered an asset

Working in an environment where there may be smoke is required.
