Job Description: This position works as part of an interdisciplinary Mental Health and Addiction Services. Under the direction of the Mental Health and Addiction Services Manager; the Nurse Practitioner will provide Mental Health and Addiction services to the community of the Saskatchewan Health Authority. The Nurse Practitioner will be responsible for assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation of care for clients in the community both independently and collaboratively with a physician, depending upon the complexity of client needs. This includes: health promotion and protection; first line treatment and emergency services; provision of supportive counselling and instruction in management of medical conditions; disease and injury prevention; initiating and conducting community needs assessments and participating in evaluative projects; and collaboration with and referral to other health care professionals as required.

Education
- Graduate from an approved School of Nursing
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN)
Experience
- 3 years experience as an RN in primary care, public health or acute care
- One year experience in community needs assessment/development/health promotion
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Demonstrates knowledge of community services, programs, and resources
- Knowledge in population health promotion and its relationship to health status
- Knowledge of common medical conditions and treatments.
- Demonstrates ability to assess the community for primary care needs
- Recognizes the need for holistic care for individuals, families, and groups
- Decision making through the application of knowledge and critical thinking
- Demonstrates ability in verbal and non-verbal communication techniques
- Demonstrates leadership and organizational skills
- Demonstrates ability to show initiative and self-direction

- Knowledge in individual assessment and counselling skills
- Ability to apply methods and principles of nursing process
Other Education & Training
- Certification in Primary Care Nurse Practitioner or equivalent program required
- Basic Cardiac Life Support Certificate (BCLS)
- Willing to become certified in Opioid Agonist Therapy (OAT) upon position start
Other Information
- Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
- Possession of, and ability to maintain current registration as RN (NP) with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS).
- Requires a valid driver’s license. May require access to a vehicle for work.
