Job Description

IN COLLABORATION WITH THE PRIMARY CARE TEAMS, THE NURSE PRACTITIONER WILL PROVIDE PRIMARY HEALTH CARE SERVICES TO CLIENTS ACROSS LIFESPAN TO SEVERAL COMMUNITIES. BLENDING AN IN-DEPTH KNOWLEDGE OF NURSING WITH THEIR LEGAL AUTHORITY AND AUTONOMY TO ORDER DIAGNOSTIC TEST, PRESCRIBE PHARMACEUTICALS AND PERFORM SPECIFIC PROCEDURES IN THE MANAGEMENT AND TREATMENTS OF COMMON ACUTE ILLNESS AND STABLE CHRONIC CONDITIONS, THE NURSE PRACTITIONER UTILIZES EVIDENCE BASED FRAMEWORKS AND INTERVENTIONS TO ASSESS, PLAN, IMPLEMENT AND EVALUATE CLIENT CARE BOTH IN COMMUNITY AND IN LONG TERM CARE, INDEPENDANTLY AND COLLABORATIVELY WITH PHYSICIANS AS NEEDED. WITH A FOCUS ON THE WHOLE OF THE INDIVIDUAL AND OR COMMUNITY THE NURSE PRACTITIONER WILL PROMOTE HEALTH AND SAFETY CHOICES; PROVISION OF SUPPORTIVE, INSTRUCTIVE TREATMENT AND EMERGENCY AND OR FIRST LINE TREATMENT SERVICES; SUPPORTIVE COUNSELLING; COLLABORATION WITH AND REFERRAL TO OTHER HEALTH CARE PROFESSIONALS; CONDUCTING COMMUNITY NEEDS ASSESSMENTS AND PARTICIPATING IN EVALUATIVE PROJECTS. THE INCUMBENT REPORTS TO THE MANAGER OF THE PRIMARY CARE SITE FOR THE PRINCE ALBERT PARKLAND HEALTH REGION.

Job Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • Approved school of Nursing, Bachelaureate Degree in Nursing preferred
  • Certification in recognized Primary Care Nurse Practitioner equivalent program or Nurse Practitioner Master's Program required
  • Maintain current certification in: Level C, Basic Cardiac Life Support / Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS)
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) as an RN (NP) or RN (GNP)
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

Experience
- Three full time years experience as a Registered Nurse - Two to Three years experience as a Primary Care Nurse or Nurse Practitioner preferred - Strong communication and public relations skills - Experience in community needs assessment, community development, and health promotion - Experience or education in treatment of trauma preferred
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to competently use computers and software applications as required by the position
  • Ability to develop and maintain good interpersonal relationships and communication with other health care professionals
  • Ability to travel both within the region and provincially
  • Ability to work independently and a part of a multi-disciplinary team
  • Communication skills to provide/obtain verbal and or written insights and advisement
  • Knowledge of community development
  • Working knowledge in health promotion
  • Working knowledge of community needs assessment

Community Description

Prince Albert is the 3rd largest city in Saskatchewan with a population of 39,737. Located in the broad valley of the North Saskatchewan River, near the geographical center of the province where the agricultural prairie of the south and the rich forest belt of the north meet.
