Job Description: The Public Health Nurse (PHN), as an integral member of the Maternal and Children's care network provides nursing services within the framework of Population Health Promotion and Primary Health Care. The Public Health Nurse translates knowledge from health and social sciences to support health-enhancing behaviors of individuals, families and population groups through targeted interventions, referrals, consultations and advocacy. Inherent in this role are knowledge, skills, and abilities specific to health promotion, prevention, and protection. This employee works relatively independently assessing wellness, counselling, teaching and identifying community health needs. Employees are expected to make decisions based on sound assessments in accordance with nursing policies and procedures of the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA), the SRNA Standards of Practice, the Canadian Community Health Nursing Standards of Practice, SHA Registered Nurse Specialty Protocols (RNSPs), and other relevant legislation. This employee liaises with, and refers to other health personnel, other sectors and community groups. The Public Health Nurse works within established guidelines to plan, organize, implement and evaluate nursing care and services.

Education
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BScN) with courses in public health nursing required
- Possession of a valid CPR Basic life Support Level "C" certificate
Experience
- Minimum of two (2) years recent nursing experience required in Maternal Newborn Nursing or Postpartum Nursing in a community or acute setting.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Acts as educator, facilitator, and resource person to individuals, families and groups. Incorporates knowledge of behavioral sciences with teaching and learning principles when carrying out educational activities and uses strategies appropriate to the relevant target group. Uses knowledge of group process and facilitation skills to assist individuals and families in taking action to improve their health.

- Registered/eligible with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS)
- This is a community based position providing services at various clinics and Primary Health care sites, including rural, within Primary Health Care Networks (Regina). Travel is required where needed. Home Base: Regina General Hospital
- Must possess a valid driver's license and have a vehicle available for work usage (a travel allowance is provided).
- Scheduled hours of work may be reduced (if applicable) during the rotation stipulated when a statutory holiday is recognized during that period.
