Job Description

The Nursing Unit Coordinator - NorthWest Community Lodge is accountable for the coordination and supervision of the care provided to the residents residing in the facility by provision of leadership to the nursing staff working at NorthWest Community Lodge. This position will integrate skills and knowledge from nursing theory utilizing proven best clinical practices, clinical problem solving, education and research to provide the staff direction in the provision of direct resident care. The incumbent will be responsible to ensure the principles of case management principles are undertaken to ensure the needs of both the resident and their family are met through a consultative approach, as well as participate in direct resident care utilizing clinical skills where and when required. The incumbent will maintain positive relationships with other health professionals, physicians and other related health region staff to ensure coordination of health and other services to the facility, staff and the residents. In addition, the incumbent will assist the Facility Manager to ensure a positive work for staff and home environment for the resident by utilization of effective communication and public relations skills.

  • Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Nursing or Bachelor Degree/Diploma in Psychiatric Nursing
  • Basic Life Support for Care Givers (BLS-HCP)
  • Registered or eligible for registration with the College of Registered Nurses of Saskatchewan (CRNS) or Registered Psychiatric Nurses Association of Saskatchewan (RPNAS)

Required Qualifications Continued: Must have a minimum of 3-5 years recent nursing experience. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Must have knowledge of current legislation and best practice standards in a continuing care setting. Demonstrated clinical assessment skills. Demonstrated knowledge, skills and judgment in the areas of case management (coordination, planning, development, implementation and evaluation). Demonstrated initiative, self-direction, organizational and leadership abilities. Demonstrates evidence of strong verbal and written communication skills. Demonstrates an ability to establish and maintain good interpersonal/consultative relationships and communication patterns with other health professionals and continuing care staff. Demonstrated commitment to continuous learning through self-development continuing education programs and informal learning opportunities. Demonstrated ability to apply research to design, manage, coordinate and provide an advanced level of care as part of a multidisciplinary team. Knowledge of health services and community resources to ensure continuity of care. Demonstrated computer skills and familiarity with Word and Power Point.
