Job Description :
As part of an interdisciplinary team, the Community Mental Health Nurse provides a complex range of screening, triage, assessment, treatment and case management services to an adult community mental health population. The incumbent provides program consultation and co-ordination, evaluation of clinical interventions, clinical supervision, preceptor students in formal clinical practicum, and provides professional and public education regarding mental health issues and resources.
Education:
- Graduation from an approved school of psychiatric nursing or graduation from an approved school of general nursing supplemented by recognized training in psychiatric nursing.
Experience:
- Two years recent recognized clinical experience with clients in a mental health setting.
- Experience in a community mental health setting is desired.
Knowledge , Skills and Abilities
- Excellent knowledge and skills related to community psychiatric nursing practice including but not limited to assessment, triage, treatment, case management and medication usage, side effects, etc.
- Ability to identify and evaluate areas of client difficulty across a wide range of clinical presentation and formulate evidence based intervention.
- Broad knowledge of adult community resources, including treatment programs and support agencies.
- Demonstrated ability to implement a variety of intervention strategies (individual and group) for adults with mental health and addictions problems in a community based setting.
- Demonstrated cultural competency skills.
- Excellent organizational skills including the ability to maintain priorities while managing multiple and diverse demands.
- Excellent interpersonal competence including effective problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
- Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment in an interdisciplinary setting, in combination with an ability to work independently.
- Excellent consultation and public relation skills with the ability to work effectively with other community based organizations.
- Excellent communication skills - both written and oral. Ability to prepare reports in a clear, concise and timely manner, and ability to provide public presentations and professional training.
Other Education and Training
- Possession of and ability to maintain a current registration as a Psychiatric Nurse in the Province of Saskatchewan (RPNAS).
- Must have a valid driver’s license. Some assignments may require access to a vehicle for work.
- Basic computer skills.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
