Job Description: The Senior Epidemiologist is part of the Population Health department within Insights for Better Health, working with partners across and external to the SHA. Builds effective working relationships with the QSI portfolio, MHOs, Primary Health Care, Provincial Programs, and corporate support departments, to inform the health system. Reporting to the Manager Population and Public Heatlh the incumbent reports on the health of the population through health equity integrated health status reporting at provincial, SHA Area and Health Networks levels; develops recommendations aimed at health system partners to improve overall population health. The incumbent advises and works closely with the Senior Medical Health Officer (SMHO), MHOs, EDs, and Directors, having direct and significant influence on high risk community impact strategies and directions, including community and organizational policies, budgets, and human resources. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

Experience
- Three years' previous experience in population health
- Three year's experience in public health and/or health determinants surveillance
Education
- Master of Public Health (MPH) or
- Master of Epidemiology
Other Education and Training
- Canadian Field Epidemiology Program (CFEP) preferred

Knowledge and Abilities
- Knowledge of analyzing, reporting of data and statistics
- Ability to work as a member of a multi-disciplinary team
- Proficiency in standard statistic software program (STATA, SPSS, SAS, R, WinBUGS)
- Skilled at performing quantitative and qualitative evaluations
- Knowledge of communicable disease transmission
- Knowledge translation experience
- Ability to plan, develop and oversee disease surveillance programs.
- competence in Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS)
- Advance computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Excel, Word and Access).
- Must be well organized and able to meet deadlines
- Ability to assist and develop policies and procedures according to best practice
- Computer applications to provide & interpret quality epidemiology info
- Knowledge of process and principles, theories and practices of epidemiology
- Knowledge in translation
- Knowledge of information sources related to Community Health
- Ability to advise on the methodology of specific project evaluation(s)
- Knowledge of research methods involving collecting data analyzing
