Job Description: The Emergency Medical Technician/Primary Care Paramedic is responsible for responding to emergent and non-emergent calls for service; provides initial assessment, treatment and transport of ill or injured persons at the basic life support level. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

Education

  • Primary Care Paramedic Certificate from an approved educational institute
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.  Emergency Medical Technician - Paramedic/Advanced Care Paramedic currently licensed in the Province of Saskatchewan.  Current CPR level "C".  Current ACLS and PALS.  Current ITLS - Advanced.

Licenses

  • International Trauma Life Support Certificate (ITLS)
  • Valid Class 4 driver's license

Other Education and Training

  • Emergency Vehicle Operations training
  • CPR/AED Provider Certification

Competencies

  • Advanced - Interpersonal skills
  • Advanced - Communication skills

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Ability to function effectively in periods of high stress/emergent situations
  • Thorough knowledge of the SHA and EMS policies and procedures
  • Knowledge in applicable tools and equipment

  • Registered/eligible for registration with the appropriate licensing body
  • Preference to HSAS members as per the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement.  HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the selection criteria
