Job Description: Reporting to the Manager, the Senior Dental Therapist will provide prevention services, diagnostic treatment planning, restorative/operative dental treatment, community and preventive dentistry services. The incumbent specializes in stimulating, coordinating, and delivering oral health promotion activities aimed at reducing disease and promoting oral health for people in the community. Incumbents must have an ability to work independently and within multi-disciplinary teams. The incumbent will plan, develop, organize, implement and evaluate the delivery of an active preventive oral health education and promotion program within the oral health professional's scope of practice. This position provides supervision, program management, and direction to the Oral Health Program. "Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement"

Experience

  • 2 years' experience as a Dental Therapist

Education

  • Graduate from a recognized Dental Therapy program

Licenses

  • Registered Dental Therapist (RDT)
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

Knowledge and Abilities

  • Computer skills an asset
  • Knowledge of oral health principles & their relationship to health and disease 
  • Knowlede of health promotion, public relations projects and/or media
  • Ability to develop and present oral health education/training to various groups
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Ability to travel on remote roads or fly in small aircraft to remote communities
  • Ability to work in a cross cultural setting
  • Ability to work in isolated areas, as required
  • Knowledge of current infection control standards, practices and protocols
  • Highly developed written and oral communication skills
