Experience

  • Experience with Adult education to staff/clients/patients/residents
  • Experience and demonstrated empathy in working with marginalized population
  • Five years recent experience in community care to clients with mental illness

Education

  • Clinical specialization appropriate to the practise is required

Licenses

  • Registered Nurse (RN)
  • Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN)
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license

Other Education and Training

  • Experience working in an interdisciplinary team environment an asset
  • Experience and demonstrated empathy in working with the aged population an asset
  • Experience in quality monitoring and evaluation an asset
  • Experience in program planning and evaluation an asset

  • Knowledge in applicable principles of nursing process and interventions
  • Knowledge of Delirium,Depression and Dementia:presentation, causes and treatment
  • Knowledge of concurrent disorders in seniors
  • Knowledge of treatment and effects of acute and post withdrawal
  • Ability to develop a monitoring program to assess and improve quality of care
  • Ability to maintain good working relationships with the general public
  • Knowledge of the mental illnesses affecting seniors and adults
  • Knowledge of related effects of ageing on mental health in seniors
  • Ability to work independently
  • Ability to assume responsibility and work independently
  • Demonstrated ability to integrate research based theory into practice
  • Knowledge of substance abuse and the effects
  • Ability to maintain harmonious working relationships. 
  • Demonstrates empathy, trust and respect in the provision of care
  • Knowledge of differences in treatment of mental illness in seniors from adults
  • Working understanding of the Mental Health Services Act and related legislation
