Job Description: As a member of the Adult services team and under the general direction of the Manager, the primary goal will be to restore, maintain and enhance the recovery of people seeking help for addiction and/or addiction related issues by implementing various modalities of addiction recovery programs. Responsibilities include assessment & screening, individual & group counselling & educational sessions. The position will be expected to provide services in the Day Treatment Program as required.

Education

  • Diploma or Degree in Chemical Dependency studies or BSW and/or another Baccalaureate discipline (generally social sciences or human services) acceptable to the employer.

Experience

  • No previous experience required.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to demonstrate knowledge in addiction(s) and their effects on the family unit.
  • Ability to accurately assess addiction(s) and make appropriate recovery plan.
  • Knowledge of screening and addiction assessment tools and procedures.
  • Knowledge of group dynamics.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of a Holistic Addiction Treatment Model, the transtheoretical Model of Change and the Developmental Model of Recovery (SMRS).
  • Knowledge of therapeutic tools such as Motivational Interviewing and CBT.
  • Knowledge of best practices in addiction field and harm reduction strategies
  • Knowledge of community resources in the addictions field.
  • Ability to deliver workshops and lecture material to clients and the community.
  • Ability to work with a multi-disciplinary team of professionals.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently to plan and priorize workload demands.
