Job Description: Reporting to the Manager and as a member of the Adult Service Team, the Addictions Counsellor Degree's primary goal will be to assess, counsel and develop comprehensive recovery and case management plans which will restore, maintain or enhance the recovery of people seeking help for addiction and/or addiction related issues. Responsibilities will include the provision of best practice methodology to assess and screen clients, and to provide individual and group counselling. the primary role of this position will be working as part of a multidisciplinary team providing virtual care. Preference for this position will be given to HSAS members in accordance with the terms and conditions of the SAHO/HSAS Collective Agreement.  HSAS seniority within the Saskatchewan Health Authority will be considered under the Selection Criteria.

Education

  • Degree in Addictions, Social Sciences or Human Services disciplines acceptable to the employer.

  • A strong knowledge of the best practices associated with treating addictions and /or addiction related issues and the effects of addictions on families and the community. 
  • A strong knowledge of Recovery oriented systems of care, trauma informed practice, culturally safe and culturally centered care and the continuum of substance use and recovery support. 
  • Ability to accurately assess addictions and\ or addictions related issues and make appropriate recovery and referrals.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of therapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT,MI & Stages of change.
  • Impact of substance use and harms associated with use.
  • knowledge and effects of substance use and withdrawal symptoms, along with appropriate resources and recovery resources/programs to mitigate them. 
  • Individual, group and crisis management /stabilization counselling skills.
  • Ability to promote healthy lifestyles with diverse populations in urban and rural settings.
  • knowledge of group dynamics and the ability to implement these in clinical process groups.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills and ability to prioritize.
  • Efficient computer skills.
