Therapeutic Recreationist

The Therapeutic Recreationist works primarily with the Behavioural Health Program. As a member of the health care team, the Therapeutic Recreationist uses specialized skills to facilitate the promotion and maintenance of the highest quality of life possible for patients. This process will be achieved through formal assessments, treatment planning, implementation, evaluation and discharge planning. Understanding of effective strategies working with the dementia population as well as unit based volunteers is key.


Qualifications

1. Degree or diploma in Recreation and Leisure Studies with a main focus on therapeutic aspects of recreation
2. Minimum 1 year experience working with adult dementia populations
3. Must be eligible for certification with a Therapeutic Recreation Association
4. Current first aid and CPR certification
5. Demonstrated ability to be adaptable, creative, innovative with a keen interest in working with a geriatric population
6. Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills
7. Demonstrated ability to function effectively as a team member
8. Demonstrated ability to problem solve with team members in a professional manner
9. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain harmonious working relationships
10. Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills
