Supervisor, Genetics and Hematopathology

The supervisor collaborates with the manager to support and promote quality delivery of laboratory services and advancing diagnostic care through creating and sustaining an engaged, productive, efficient workforce, collectively guided toward best practice. The following activities are conducted in collaboration with the healthcare team: quality improvement activities, continuing professional education, problem-solving, staff performance review, communication within the hospital and with other laboratory and clinical services.

Under the direction of the Manager, the supervisor is responsible for: managing issues related to staffing resources, e.g. attendance, retention, recruitment, performance management and implementation of policies and procedures; managing laboratory service delivery within a patient-centered care environment, e.g. total quality management, quality indicators, team building; operational supplies and equipment; participating in the budget analysis and implementation; leading change effectively within the department; facilitating communication between departments, programs and services; promoting team spirit, cohesiveness, motivation and commitment to program goals.


Qualifications
  • Registration with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field (BSc, BHA)

  • Degree or certificate in health management, quality management, clinical management or leadership program

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience working as an MLT in Clinical Genetics or Hematopathology

  • Demonstrated excellence in problem-solving and project management skills including planning, execution and monitoring of projects

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and standards in laboratory medicine

  • Demonstrated leadership abilities, excellence in communication skills (written and verbal), interpersonal skills, team building and the ability to initiate and model positive change

  • Demonstrated commitment to professional development

  • Demonstrated ability to manage competing priorities in a rapidly changing landscape

  • Financial management, procurement and budget analysis, an asset

  • Previous supervisory experience, an asset
