Speech Language Pathologist

Within this out-patient role, the Speech-Language Pathologist will conduct thorough case histories, complete clinical bedside assessments, and perform videofluoroscopic swallow studies and/or fiberoptic endoscopic evaluations of swallowing to best meet the patient needs. The Speech-Language Pathologist will provide comprehensive rehabilitation and management of swallowing disorders, as appropriate, as well as consultation to other Speech-Language Pathologists with regards to adult dysphagia in Hamilton and the surrounding region. 


Qualifications
  1. Master's level degree in Speech-Language Pathology from an accredited university
  2. Current registration and in good standing with the College of Audiologists and Speech-Language Pathologists of Ontario (CASLPO)
  3. Three years of recent experience in the area of dysphagia assessment, management, and counselling
  4. Minimum one year experience with a varied adult caseload (ie. neurological conditions, cancer care, gastroenterology, etc.)
  5. Comprehensive knowledge of the diseases, conditions, and functional impairments that form the etiological bases for swallowing disorders.
  6. Experience with Videofluoroscopic Swallow Studies (VFSS) required. Must have a strong understanding of swallowing physiology, kinematics, and timing, as well as the interconnectedness of the pharyngeal and esophageal phases of the swallow.
  7. Experience with Fiberoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) preferred
  8. Able to work independently  
  9. Willingness to work collaboratively with health care professionals and referring providers
  10. Able to organize and prioritize multiple demands
  11. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  12. Commitment to ongoing learning and skill acquisition
  13. Commitment to teaching and providing learning opportunities for students
