Description
The Physiotherapist (PT) is accountable for providing Physiotherapy Services designed to improve and/or maintain: the comfort / physical mobility / functional abilities / quality of life of patients on Behavioural Health. The PT utilizes a patient and family-centred approach and incorporates best available evidence into practice. Assessment and treatment plans are developed in collaboration with the interdisciplinary team to meet the goals of patients and families. The position provides some coverage to other clinical areas as needed. PT expertise primarily focuses on strategies to improve/maintain a patient’s: joint range / muscle strength / fine and gross motor skills / mobility/balance / pain management/ equipment needs and preparation for discharge. Collaborative goals of treatment often focus on the promotion of safe mobility and transfers / pain management / continence /quality of life & discharge with community supports. The PT provides clinical education to PT students and others through preceptor, tutor, clinical lecturer and/or skills lab activities. The PT reports directly to the Clinical Manager, for all functions pertaining to service operations and team functions on the assigned program.
Qualifications
1. Bachelor Degree or equivalent in Physiotherapy from an accredited school; Masters' Degree preferred
2. Registration with the College of Physiotherapists of Ontario
3. Minimum two years of recent clinical experience in rehabilitation and / or geriatrics.
4. Sound knowledge of rehabilitation physical medicine and the processes of normal and abnormal aging.
6. A sound knowledge of Physiotherapy scope of practice with demonstrated clinical judgment, critical thinking and ability to utilize a holistic approach.
7. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written
8. Excellent organizational skills with ability to manage clinical caseload demands with education & program development activities.
9. Strong leadership qualities.
10. Current Assistive Devices Program (ADP) authorizer status for mobility aids is preferred
11. Ability to attend work regularly; demonstrated acceptable attendance record
12. Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with a wide variety of stake-holder groups including clients, families, teams, leadership and others within the circle of care.
