The Pharmacy Technician will function as part of the multi-disciplinary team in the pre-op clinic to gather the Best Possible Medication History for all pediatric and adult patients, attending the HHS pre-op clinic and are scheduled for hospital admission after surgery. This role will routinely interact with patients, care-givers, community pharmacies, family physician offices, or access other sources of information to accurately and efficiently gather the medication history. The Pre-op Pharmacy Technician will advise patients to bring their own multi-dose medications and non-formulary items on the day of surgery when required. The Pre-op Pharmacy Technician will work collaboratively with the inpatient surgical pharmacist teams or the perioperative pharmacist to facilitate patient care. The role will contribute to patient safety and reduce unnecessary drug expenses.

Qualifications

1. Registration with the Ontario College of Pharmacists
2. Graduate of an approved Pharmacy Technician Program
3. Minimum 1 years related hospital pharmacy experience
4. Minimum 1 year community pharmacy experience
5. ISMP BPMH training course preferred
6. Completion of HHS Technician BPMH certification course within six months of starting the position
7. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal, communication, teamwork, problem-solving and organizational skills
8. Demonstrated ability to use computers –EPIC, ClinicalConnect, ODB DPV
9. Ability to follow specific instructions with a high degree of accuracy
10. Demonstrated initiative and judgment appropriate for the role. Self-directed in seeking out pharmacy issues within the healthcare team
11. Demonstrated commitment to professional development
