Junior Laboratory Technologist

The Junior Laboratory Technologist role is to perform laboratory experiments of biological specimens for research projects under the supervision of the laboratory director.

Includes: developing and performing various in-vitro and in-vivo procedures and consolidating results for review and approval, managing  analysis documentation and monitoring of lab processes.

Further responsibilities include:

• Reading protocols in study specific manuals, standard operating procedures and requisition instructions and document any deviations or unacceptable specimens on requisition and in lab info system

• Assemble and adjust tests and laboratory equipment for experiments and procedures. Operate, adjust, and maintain a variety of laboratory equipment and scientific instruments. Schedule laboratory equipment for use.

• Prepare chemical reagents and biomedical media according to formulae and assume responsibility for accuracy in the preparation and standardization of solutions.

• Sample Preparation, pipette a variety of reagents and media. Monitor supplies and order inventories. Ensure adequate supplies are available for experiments.

• Responsible for the proper storage of materials and the appropriate disposal of waste.  

• Liaise with other laboratories, external departments, and agencies to coordinate resources and schedules to meet research objectives.


Qualifications
  • Bachelor of Science (BSc.) or Medical Laboratory Technology advanced diploma (MLT)
  • Minimum 12 months of Clinical or research laboratory (Including through co-operative education)
  • Specimen handling and preparation techniques (pipetting, vortexing, centrifugation, etc.). Safely handle potentially infectious human blood/blood products
  • Operate centrifuge and biosafety cabinet and other laboratory equipment
  • Demonstrated computer skills using MS Office and proprietary database systems including GraphPad
  • Complete training in Transportation of Dangerous Goods Other duties to include filing, tracking courier shipments online

  •  experience in a research lab
  • hemophilia research experience
