As an Emergency & Disaster Management (EDM) Specialist, you’ll play a vital role in strengthening our hospital’s readiness and resilience. You’ll help ensure that when emergencies strike—whether internal or external—we respond swiftly, effectively, and with confidence.

What You’ll Do

As a key member of the EDM team, you will:

  • Develop and manage emergency response plans, tools, and resources that empower staff, physicians, and affiliates across the organization.
  • Lead training and exercises that prepare hospital leaders and teams for real-world scenarios, from tabletop drills to full-scale simulations.
  • Support live emergency responses, guiding hospital teams through active incidents and facilitating post-incident debriefs and action planning.
  • Collaborate across departments to embed emergency preparedness into daily operations and strategic planning.
  • Ensure compliance with regulatory and professional standards, while helping shape new best practices in healthcare emergency management.

  • Familiarity with relevant legislation, standards, and accreditation requirements.

This position is eligible for a hybrid remote work arrangement, in accordance with HHS’ Remote Work Policy.


Qualifications

1. Undergraduate Degree in Emergency Disaster Management or equivalent; 
2. 3 years emergency management experience, preferable in healthcare;
3. Certifications in Incident Management/Command Systems and Exercise Design;
4. Project management experience is an asset;
5. Experience in the development and implementation of policies, procedures, and training programs; 
6. Excellent planning, analytical and organizational skills;
7. Ability to gather and synthesize data to reach understanding of situations;
8. Results driven and focused on stakeholder success;
9. Evidence of effective interpersonal, leadership, judgment, critical thinking and decision-making skills;
10. Proficiency in using computer & software technology eg. SharePoint, Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) etc. 
11. Ability to meet deadlines and prioritize tasks accordingly;
12. Excellent written, oral communication, and coaching skills;
13. Ability to collaborate and work effectively within a multi-disciplinary team;
14. Flexible, self-directed and able to work effectively with minimal supervision;
15. Able to travel between sites for meetings and training activities;
16. Ability to operate and perform in high stress environments
