The Education Coordinator supports the organization, development, coordination, implementation and evaluation of educational activities that support the learning needs of healthcare providers serving older adults and the overall strategic goals of the  (RGPc). The RGPc delivers high quality, evidence-based, older adult-focused, and fiscally responsible care and service to the Hamilton-Niagara-Haldimand-Brant Regions (HNHB) that is consistent with Ontario Health West, Provincial Geriatrics Leadership Ontario and HHS corporate and program strategic directions.


Qualifications
  • Initiates and coordinates collaborative education activities in aging and health.
  • Supports the Chair and Director with strategic planning as appropriate.
  • Manages the activity associated with RGPc educational offerings including but not limited to the Geriatric Certificate Program, Geriatric Training Program, Update in Geriatrics, Cognitive Assessment Tools Workshop, including marketing and promotion, monitoring enrollment, managing learners, engaging with partners and evaluating outcomes.
  • Participates on committees of the RGPc and its stakeholders, serving as a resource to a wide network of educators, researchers and service providers and facilitating collaboration, network building and fostering of strategic relationships to improve geriatric care and support the goals of the RGPc.
  • Facilitates best practice knowledge translation through a variety of means including, but not limited to management and development of RGPc geriatric educational offering, RGPc website and online educational resource database, RGPc newsletter and participation on committees and working groups.
  • Manages the RGPc Website (www.rgpc.ca) using Wordpress. Identifies content that is of interest to RGPc stakeholders including new research, educational resources and events; new or changing geriatric health service models and programs; provincial and national policy directions, reports and legislation impacting older adults and geriatric care; as well providing pertinent information about RGPc priorities and key activities.
  • Responsible for researching and monitoring the health care sector for new information that would be relevant to the RGP and helpful for health care workers.
  • Creates and manages financial budgets associated with educational offerings as well as staff hiring.
  • Develops, coordinates and executes any new educational offerings or other service recognition events associated with the RGPc and associated partners.
  • Responsible for having exceptional research skills (preparing literature reviews, data collection, analysis etc.), writing skills and oral communication skills to be used on any research project when needed.
  • Promotes the activities and resources of the RGPc through presentations to, and participation on, numerous regional committees as well as participation in conferences and workshops.
  • Coordinates and facilitates collaborative projects with McMaster University, Provincial Geriatrics Leadership Ontario, and other provincial, national and international conferences.
  • Assists with the hiring of students and staff as appropriate in the areas of education and project coordination. Supervises activity of staff and provides support and training. Monitors staff work completed by other staff and provides guidance as needed. 
  • Completes other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Education

  • University degree, post graduate degree preferred
  • 3 or more years of related work experience
  • Background in Aging/Gerontology required 
  • Clinical background or practical experience working with older adults would be an asset
     

Knowledge/Skills

  • Good understanding of issues relevant to geriatrics and planning for an older population.
  • Knowledge of Specialized Geriatric Services across the regions of HNHB, Halton and Waterloo Wellington
  • Ability to link and collaborate with different sectors of care, understand their mandates and roles, and assess new and evolving roles and their added value to RGPc
  • Exemplary interpersonal and communication skills to ensure strong collaborative activities across faculties, sectors, and disciplines
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and also a committed team player.
  • Strong project management skills, critical thinking, coordination and planning skills
  • Ability to manage educational budgets/costs
  • Supervise staff as required
  • Strong writing, editing and oral presentation skills and the ability to review and appraise articles and documents.
  • Must have the flexibility to handle change, widely-varied duties and complex ad hoc situations. 
  • Systems-thinker and self-directed problem solver.
  • Competent in Microsoft Office Suite and website management software, Adobe creative suite
