Description
As a member of the health care team, the business clerk is responsible for completing all clerical tasks on the unit thus ensuring that the unit operates efficiently and effectively on a daily basis. A strong customer service approach is essential, as they are the first point of contact for patients, families and visitors arriving on the unit
1. Grade 12 or equivalent
2. Graduate of Community College secretarial or office administration program or equivalent office experience
3. Medical Terminology Certificate 1 and 2, or demonstrated knowledge equivalent to Medical Terminology Certificate 1 and 2 acquired in a different position, which may be subject to testing
4. Experience in using Meditech software (eg. Patient Care Inquiry and Order Entry Modules)
5. Keyboarding 40 wpm
6. Demonstrated proficiency in computer applications such as Microsoft Office (ie: Word, Excel, Outlook)
7. Knowledge and skill in using the computer
8. Demonstrated effective communication (verbal and written), interpersonal skills within an interdisciplinary team environment, public relations and problem-solving skills
9. Ability to set priorities and organize work accordingly
10. Ability to deal with various hospital departments effectively and collaboratively
11. Ability to appreciate the confidential nature of the position
