GSSD invites applications for a First Nations Pow Wow Drumming Instructor

The First Nations Pow Wow Drumming Instructor will share traditional knowledge and provide hands-on drumming instruction to students in Good Spirit School Division schools. This role supports GSSD’s commitment to fostering a culturally inclusive and respectful environment by promoting understanding and appreciation of First Nations traditions, protocols, and worldviews.

Compensation:

  • contracted - $150 per session (defined as a scheduled morning or afternoon in a GSSD school).
  • Mileage reimbursement

The successful applicant will have the following knowledge, skills, abilities and educational background:

  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience in Pow Wow drumming and First Nations cultural practices.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with school staff and students.
  • This role is designated for candidates of Indigenous ancestry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead Pow Wow drumming sessions in GSSD schools, scheduled as either a morning or afternoon session.
  • Teach students the cultural significance, protocols, and techniques of Pow Wow drumming.
  • Collaborate with school-based administrators and staff to create engaging, culturally responsive learning experiences.
  • Promote respect for Indigenous traditions and ensure cultural protocols are followed during sessions.
  • Build positive relationships with students, staff, and community members.
