Reporting to the Director - Structure and Infrastructure, the Assistant Director is responsible for the performance and planning of a team of approximately 10 engineers and structural designer in the discipline. He manages the team to support GCM Consultants projects. The performance of this team is essential to the success of the projects and the satisfaction of the clients. Furthermore, he demonstrates his credibility and technical leadership both internally and externally by inspiring confidence in our clients, employees and potential resources. As part of your job, you will be required to:
TECHNICAL MANAGEMENT
Supervise and/or design steel and concrete structures, mainly for heavy industry, as well
as for buildings.
Provide technical supervision to junior/intermediate engineers under their supervision.
Provide problem-solving solutions and ensure their implementation. Demonstrate a
practical approach and concern for the constructability of the proposed technical
solutions.
Participate in project definition and concept development in collaboration with the client
and other disciplines.
Participate in design reviews.
Have a demonstrated ability to converge rapidly in problem solving.
Prepare project cost estimates.
Ensure the overall quality of all deliverables of employees under their supervision.
Identify technical tools to be developed and participate in their development through
individualized training plans.
Actively participate in the department's marketing activities (project sheets).
Prepare and evaluate the department's service proposals. Responsible for validating
service proposals of $50k and under.

HUMAN RESOURCES MANAGEMENT
Participate in the recruitment process of their team.
Coach and provide ongoing feedback to employees under their supervision.
Actively participate in the development of employees under their supervision through
individual development plans.
Distribute responsibilities according to the skills of the team members.
Follow up on the performance of their resources (trio meetings with employees under
their supervision).
Contribute positively to the working environment in order to keep teams motivated and
inspired.
Supervise the work of employees under their supervision (e.g., work plan, performance
index, alignment, etc.).
Participate in the allocation of resources to projects.
Occasionally: Act as an interim Discipline Manager from a production standpoint.

ADMINISTRATIVE MANAGEMENT
Ensure compliance with company policies and procedures at all times.
Ensure that all employees understand the importance of safety, quality of deliverables and
GCM values.
Be familiar with internal processes and ensure their application.




Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in in civil engineering.
  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in the field of industrial structures
  •  Experience in brownfield plant projects
  • Relevant in consulting engineering and team management experience
  • Significant experience in the design of steel structures and foundations
  • Knowledge of SAFI structural analysis software is an asset
  • Member of the Ordre des Ingénieurs du Québec (OIQ)
  • Fluency in French and English required occasionally since the person will collaborate with colleagues and clients outside of Quebec, both written and oral.
