The Scaler is responsible for scaling logs, managing the log yard, and maintaining the quality of inputs required for the plant’s production. The incumbent also carries out various administrative follow-ups, purchases essential supplies, and coordinates the health and safety aspects. Versatile and detail-oriented, the scaler plays a key role in optimizing operations and the inventory system.

Duties and Responsibilities

Log Scaling and Management

  • Scale logs and accurately identify wood species.
  • Manage the log yard to optimize plant feedstock and production flow.
  • Manage and optimize log inventory.
  • Ensure the overall quality of received and stored logs.
  • Use the LIMS (Log Information Management System) for scaling logs (asset).

Purchasing, Reporting, and Operational Support

  • Purchase supplies, maintenance parts, and other operational needs.
  • Prepare production reports and any other required reports.
  • Analyze purchases and follow up appropriately with suppliers.
  • Support the continuous improvement team.
  • Assist the manager with the EABAFCP program.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Health and Safety

  • Support the HSE (Health, Safety, and Environment) component: conduct inspections, assist with training.
  • Produce work and setup instructions as needed.

Requested skills

Qualifications

  • Relevant experience as a scaler.
  • Demonstrated ability to sort wood by species.
  • Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with LIMS for scaling logs (asset).
  • Ability to operate heavy equipment (asset).
  • Bilingual in French/English (asset).
