Detailed Overview

Performs assessments and interventions relating to patients' occupational performance according to established Occupational Therapy practices; participates in in-service education, and provides input into program development.

This position is a multi-site position providing occupational therapy services at both ARHCC & MMH.


Responsibilities

  1. Performs occupational therapy assessments, program planning, intervention, discharge planning, and follow-up in relation to an individual patient's occupational performance, using occupational therapy techniques and practices.
  2. Participates in the inter-disciplinary team meetings to discuss patient care goals, therapeutic strategies and program related issues.
  3. Maintains documentation by ensuring reports, records and workload statistics are complete and accurate according to established departmental standards..
  4. Participates in quality improvement activities such as assisting in the development, implementation and evaluation of written procedures and standards, development of assessment forms and patient materials, and program descriptions as required.
  5. Contributes to in-service education and staff meetings by sharing experiences and expertise; participates in problem identification and resolution.
  6. Participates in student education by providing guidance and input to current and potential occupational therapy students, rehabilitation assistant students and/or work experience students.
  7. Reports need for supplies, equipment, and repairs to designated Supervisor.
  8. Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Graduate of an approved school of Occupational Therapy from an accredited university.

Current full registration with the College of Occupational Therapists of British Columbia (COTBC) and eligible for membership in the British Columbia Society of Occupational Therapists (BCSOT).

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize workload.
  • Ability to deal effectively with others.
  • Ability to maintain knowledge of current developments in occupational therapy by reviewing professional literature, consulting with other professionals and actively participating in relevant educational programs.
