Job Summary

Fraser Heath is seeking to fill the Local Department Head, Addiction Medicine and Substance Use Services, position at Burnaby General Hospital.

 

The position will report and be accountable to the Department of Addiction Medicine and Substance Use Services Program Medical Director and Regional Department Head.

 

The successful candidate will have lead responsibility for the maintenance of medical and ethical standards of practice and ensures activities of the Department are consistent with the FH MH&SU program priorities and directions.

 

Reporting and accountable to the Regional Department Head (RDH) and as a member of the Burnaby General Hospital (BGH) medical staff, they will work as a team player with colleagues and co-workers in identifying service delivery models and processes to ensure seamless integration of services within acute care, community care and primary care, while maintaining system sustainability.

 

Recruitment will proceed as per the FHA Medical Staff Bylaws.

 

Responsibilities: Reporting to the Addiction Medicine and Substance Use Services (AMSUS) Program Medical Director/Regional Department Head, the responsibilities of the Local Department Heads (LDH) will include, but are not limited to:

 

  • Attend regional AMSUS department meetings.
  • Ensure clinical services are delivered effectively.
  • Liaise with the PMD/RDH and medical staff in the facility to establish, monitor and ensure compliance with budget, volume and quality targets.
  • Ensure department members are engaged in quality improvement and utilization management activities.
  • Investigate complaints regarding care provided by department medical staff, under the direction of PMD/RDH.
  • Functions as the channel of communication to and from the regional department.
  • Recommends policies and guidelines, relating to medical/clinical matters.
  • Promotes health and wellness amongst department members.
  • Encourages a healthy, respectful workplace.
  • Reviews physician resource requirements with regional department.
  • Contributes to the selection of new staff members joining the regional department.

Qualifications: The successful candidate must:

  • Have current licensure with CPSBC and current CMPA coverage
  • Have CCFP or FRCPC
  • Be an active medical staff member of the Burnaby General Hospital and Fraser Health Authority department of Addiction Medicine and Substance Use Services Program
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing learning and professional development

Remuneration: Stipend

 

Term: Three years, renewable by the Program Medical Director/Regional Department Head.
