Detailed Overview

Performs of variety of duties such as portioning, serving and transporting meals, washing and peeling fruits and vegetables, preparing food items and washing dishes and utensils.
Responsibilities

Sets up tray line and meal trays with items such as condiments, utensils and napkins; portions out food and beverages on the meal trays as per menu slips; loads, delivers, collects and unloads meal service wagons.
Counts, weighs and/or measures ingredients for assigned food preparation area.
Makes beverages and food items such as tea, coffee and toast; assembles items such as sandwiches and salads.
Washes, peels and stores fruits and vegetables.
Strips, racks and washes items such as dishes, pots, pans and utensils; operating dishwashing machine and/or pot washing machines; stacks clean dishes and utensils.
Loads food carts; delivers and picks up meal trays on assigned wards.
Performs cleaning duties such as sweeping and damp mopping floors, cleaning counter tops, sinks, machines and equipment; spot washes walls and splash areas, removes garbage as required.
Performs clerical duties such as answering the phone, filing, writing information on menu cards and checking cards against lists.
Performs other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Grade 10 or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Current Food Safe or equivalent certificate.

Skills and Abilities

Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
Ability to deal effectively with others.
Ability to organize work.
Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position.
Ability to operate related equipment.
