Surrey Memorial Hospital (SMH) is inviting applications for the position of a General Cardiologist. SMH is located in the Lower Mainland and is part of the Fraser Health Authority. It is the 2nd largest hospital in BC with nearly 800 beds, and has the busiest ER department in the country. Inpatient cardiology has a 9 bed CCU and an 18 bed telemetry ward, with plans for further expansion. Echocardiography and nuclear medicine studies are provided both at SMH and the Jim Pattison Outpatient Care and Surgery Centre. Outpatient clinics include Heart Function, Lipid, Pacemaker and Cardiac Rehabilitation clinics.
The Royal Columbian Hospital nearby is the regional cardiac surgery centre.
The cardiology program at SMH is in a period of expansion, and starting in late 2025, we will also be opening the doors to the province’s first stand alone cardiac catheterization labs. Further, in early 2030, with the addition of a second critical care tower at SMH, we will also have cardiac surgery on site.
The successful applicant will join the Cardiology Department that consists of 14.5 FTE cardiologists and will participate in the cardiology on-call service, ward service, and electro-diagnostic interpretation (including echocardiography) as well as the supervision and teaching of medical trainees (medical students and residents).
The applicant must have CMPA membership, be eligible for licensure with the College of Physicians and Surgeons of BC, and hold a FRCP(C) or equivalent.
