We currently have an exciting opportunity for a Full-Time 3rd Class Shift Engineer at Burnaby Hospital located in Burnaby, British Columbia

 

We are looking for applicants with;

  • 3rd Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of BC
  • Four years recent related experience.

Detailed Overview

Under supervision, performs duties relating to the operation and maintenance of the Power Plant and ancillary equipment, hospital building systems and specialized equipment.
Responsibilities

1. In accordance with the Power Engineers, Boiler and Pressure Vessel Safety Act and Regulations, is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of steam boilers and ancillary equipment on a shift basis.

2. Monitors the operation of steam boilers and logs pressure, temperature and level readings on an hourly basis.

3. Performs major repairs, alterations and preventative maintenance on all mechanical, refrigeration and Power Plant equipment as required. Includes:

  • Hospital heating, ventilation and air conditioning equipment
  • Domestic and commercial refrigeration equipment
  • Sterilizing equipment
  • Medical gas systems and equipment
  • Pneumatic tube system and equipment
  • Steam, condensate, domestic hot and cold water, drainage, gas and oil distribution systems and equipment
  • Computerized energy management HVAC control system

4. Maintains daily work log of all activities within the power plant.

5. Answers equipment repair cells on an emergency basis.

6. Completes a general inspection tour of the Power Plant once per shift.

7. Acts as Fire Warden in the absence of the fire marshal, responds to fire alarms as required.

8. Responds to hazardous spills of ethylene oxide, asbestos and mercury, contains spill at source.

9. Cleans and paints machinery and shops as required.

10. Carries out metal fabrication, gas and electric weldings.

11. Performs other related duties as required.


Qualifications

Education and Experience

Certificate of competency as a 3rd Class Power Engineer recognized by the Province of B.C. Four years' recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Skills and Abilities

  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to deal with others effectively
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, drawings and specifications. 
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position
  • Ability to operate related equipment
