As part of its growth, our client - a dynamic SME in the logistics sector - is seeking a Chief Accountant to oversee its accounting team of four. The company works in partnership with an external accounting firm for annual review engagements.

The successful candidate will play a key role in supervising day-to-day financial operations, ensuring the reliability of accounting information, and driving continuous improvement within the department.

Main Responsibilities

Supervise, mentor, and support the accounting team (4 members).

Ensure accuracy, consistency, and adherence to deadlines for all accounting operations.

Manage organizational and operational changes within the department.

Oversee accounts receivable, accounts payable, and GST/QST filings.

Prepare monthly financial reports and ensure month-end and year-end closings.

Perform or review bank reconciliations and various account analyses.

Collaborate with the external accounting firm during review and year-end processes.

Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of accounting processes and the implementation of best practices.

Be a hands-on professional, ready to step into day-to-day operations when needed.

Desired Profile

Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.

5 to 8 years of accounting experience, including team management or supervisory responsibilities.

Experience in an SME or a similar environment (experience in the logistics sector is an asset).

Strong understanding of accounting principles and month-end/year-end closing processes.

Comfortable with change management and process optimization.

Excellent interpersonal skills and a collaborative leadership style.

Proficient with accounting software and computer tools.

Bilingual in French and English to effectively collaborate with English-speaking partners.

CPA designation is an asset but not required.

Strong team spirit and positive leadership attitude.
