Job Description

SCOPE

Reports to the Resident Program Manager. Implements programs to meet the various physical, emotional, intellectual, social and spiritual needs of residents and assists in monitoring their needs and progress.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Implements and evaluates both individual and group programs based on assessed needs and as assigned by the Manager. Sets up and cleans the activity area as necessary and assists with transporting residents to and from programs. Monitors the behaviour and condition of residents during programs, reporting any significant changes to the Manager and nursing staff as appropriate.

2. Participates in care conferences and other committees as required to assist in assessing needs of residents. Attends in-service education programs.

3. Meets with residents within 48 hours of admission to discuss available programs and services. Staff will provide the resident with and activity calendar and tour as appropriate.

4. Participates in the development and revision of programs under the guidance of the Resident Program Manager.

5. Maintains program and resident records according to department policy. Communicates participation by residents to registered staff.

6. Participates in committees as assigned by the Resident Program Manager.

7. Adheres to established department policies and procedures regarding quality improvement, fire, safety, environment and infection control.

8. Works cooperatively with other departments to meet resident needs.

9. Other duties as assigned by Resident Program Manager.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Some irregular hours, evening and weekend work required. Frequent use of visual and auditory senses to monitor responses to activities during programs. Working with sharp and hot equipment required. I.e.) scissors, knives, ovens etc.

KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/EXPERIENCE

· Successful completion of a degree or diploma in Recreation, Gerontology, Activation or Social Sciences

· Previous experience in a long term care setting preferred

· Ability to read and write English well enough to understand complex verbal and written instructions and complete written documentation required.
