Role Title: Assistant Director of Care
Evening Shift - 11 am - 7 pm
In collaboration with the Director of Care, the Associate Director of Care (ADOC) plays a key role in ensuring the delivery of care aligns with best practice guidelines and adheres to clinical scope in compliance with provincial regulations. The ADOC will oversee nursing practices, ensuring a resident-centered approach, while actively contributing to the development, implementation, monitoring, and evaluation of care and services provided to residents within the home.
Key Outcomes:
• Serve as a strong advocate for resident safety and the ongoing improvement of quality care.
• Attain high Resident and Family Satisfaction scores, as measured through Satisfaction Survey Results.
• Consistently meet or exceed all quality indicators for residents, in alignment with organizational and Ministry guidelines, through the effective execution of required clinical programs.
• Foster a culture of employee engagement, driving an increase in overall employee satisfaction compared to the previous year.
• Ensure adherence to regulatory compliance, as well as organizational standards, policies, and procedures.
• Promote and maintain resident safety through strict compliance measures.
• Achieve full regulatory compliance regarding healthcare records and the secure handling of drugs and narcotics.
Key Responsibilities:
In collaboration with the Director of Care:
• Align resident care services with the identified needs of both the internal and external communities.
• Oversee the financial and human resource management of the Nursing Department.
• Maintain and evaluate all clinical programs within the Nursing Department to ensure compliance with legislative and professional standards.
• Serve as a liaison with hospitals, medical staff, community organizations, and other healthcare disciplines to ensure the effective delivery of care within the home.
• Hire, supervise, evaluate, promote, and manage the performance of care staff.
• Develop, review, and update job routines for all clinical staff while providing ongoing leadership and support to clinical leads and staff.
• Ensure the provision of quality care in a safe, effective, and efficient work environment.
• Ensure the availability and proper maintenance of Nursing Department supplies and equipment to meet operational needs.
• Collaborate with the Director of Care on Infection Control matters and coordinate related monitoring activities within the home.
• Assume the responsibilities of the Director of Care in their absence.
• Demonstrate knowledge of the Resident Bill of Rights and the organization’s governing principles, actively promoting these values.
• Ensure resident satisfaction and contribute to continuous quality improvement initiatives.
• Participate in the review and analysis of clinical and quality outcomes.
• Uphold and promote the organization’s values and philosophy regarding ethics, morality, and integrity, as outlined in the Code of Conduct.
• Adhere to all responsibilities for reporting adverse resident occurrences in accordance with regulatory and legislative requirements.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Education, Credentials and Experience:
• Minimum of one (1) year of experience working as a Registered Nurse in the long-term care sector.
• Minimum of three (3) years of experience working as a Registered Nurse in a managerial or supervisory capacity in a health care setting.
• Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the applicable Provincial licensing body is required.
• Bachelor or Master of Nursing preferred.
• Current CPR certification required.
• Demonstrated leadership and communication skills.
• Professional competencies related to life-long learning, public relations, and health environment awareness.
• Possession of strong motivational, team building and time management skills.
• Must be computer literate in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Proficiency in a second language is considered an asset.
