We are seeking a Legal Counsel to join our team of inhouse regulatory lawyers. The successful candidate will provide legal advice to Enbridge’s Liquids Pipelines (LP) and Gas Transmission and Midstream Canada (GTM) business units and other Enbridge entities on regulatory and other legal matters.

What You Will Do:

  • Primarily, provide advice, strategy and guidance on LP regulatory (e.g. CER, AER and FERC) and GTM regulatory (e.g. CER, BCER and BCUC) legal matters affecting tolls (rates) and tariffs, facilities, operations, compliance and project development

  • Provide advice on government or regulator initiatives as they relate to Enbridge businesses

  • Work collaboratively with other legal and business unit teams at Enbridge.

  • Assist Senior Management and Management by providing strategic advice, direction, drafting documents, opinions and presentations in relation to regulatory, operational and business development matters, keeping in mind business objectives and appropriate risk.

  • Provide advice and assistance to ensure compliance with applicable federal and provincial statutes and common law on complex projects.

  • Assist with the preparation of regulatory applications and hearings and supporting compliance verification activities

  • Coordinate and supervise external legal counsel to ensure services are provided in an efficient and cost-effective manner.

  • Prepare and deliver educational seminars to Enbridge employees on relevant topics.

  • Keep informed and keep Management informed of pertinent regulatory legal issues, legislative changes, etc. affecting Enbridge’s crude oil, natural gas and electricity assets and operations.

Who You Are:

  • A versatile regulatory lawyer with at least 6 years of experience. Knowledge of the pipeline industry and associated regulatory processes is an asset.

  • Tolls (rates) and tariffs experience, including FERC oil pipeline experience, is highly desirable.

  • Possess a law degree and be a member in good standing of a provincial Law Society or State bar association.

  • Able to adapt quickly, prioritize effectively and have a highly developed level of common sense and business acumen.

  • Strong collaborator with exceptional communication (written and oral), negotiation, leadership and people skills.

  • Highly developed ability to identify and respond to complex legal, regulatory and business issues on short notice and under strict time constraints.

  • Well-developed knowledge of company operations; expertise in engineering, environment, business, finance, accounting and project management is an asset.

  • Able to work independently, make decisions and meet multiple deadlines in a potentially stressful environment.

  • Meticulous attention to detail, but pragmatic in approach.
