Nature of the work 

The principal and customary work of the Maintenance Workman, Class II consists in carrying out minor maintenance work to ensure that the offices and other premises of the institution are clear and in good condition. In general, the employee performs his or her duties under the supervision and according to the instructions of a maintenance workman of a higher class, as caretaker, or a foreman. 

Description of tasks

• Dusts, cleans, washes, and waxes the furniture and the woodwork
• Vacuums the carpeting, sweeps the floors
• Places light furniture
• Empties and cleans waste baskets and ashtrays
• Washes windows, venetian blinds, and blackboards
• In a laundry room, may be assigned duties such as the care and preparation of linen
• If need be, performs any other related duty.
