Nature of the work
The role of a health and safety prevention officer includes functions related to risk management, training and the development of health and safety programs. This key role involves overseeing and enforcing health and safety policies, as well as promoting a culture of prevention within the organization.
Description of tasks
Specific Responsibilities:
- Contribute to establishing a health and safety prevention structure
- Coordinate the activities with the school board's health and safety committees
- Collaborate with the school board's health and safety representatives
- Partner with management and staff to develop practical solutions to safety issues
- Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate professional risk prevention programs
- Establish and monitor prevention plans adapted to the specific needs of the organization
- Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations
- Conduct regular workplace inspections and identify potential hazards
- Inform and train staff on safe practices and accident prevention
- Analyze workplace incidents and accidents to determine their causes and propose corrective measures
- Represent the school board, as required, regarding health and safety to various authorities and collaborate with external partners.
- May be assigned any other responsibility inherent to the position
- Responsible for maintaining all health and safety related documentation
- Keep the team informed of updates regarding health and safety rules and regulations
- Provide support with health and safety claims and compensation cases
- Perform any other related duties
Required Qualifications
- A bachelor's degree in a related field
Desired profile
- Bilingual - good knowledge of both English and French
- In-depth knowledge of health and safety laws and regulations
- Excellent communication and training skills
- Ability to analyze data and write detailed reports
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Experience in a similar health and safety and risk management role will be considered an asset
- Ability to travel within the school board’s territory.
