DEPARTMENT:

Histology


COMPENSATION:

As per Collective Agreement


WORKING SCHEDULE:

Monday to Friday, 8:00am to 4:00pm

(37.5hours per week)



RESPONSIBILITIES:

Performs technical duties related to the preparation of pathological specimens. Performs preparation of pathology specimens for further processing in cooperation with MLT and technician staff.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Selects, dissects and prepares tissue sections for further processing.
  • Conducts non-technical routine laboratory procedures under the direction of professional staff.
  • Sets up and operates laboratory equipment in preparation for specimen examinations.
  • Opens, separates, numbers and arranges specimens for laboratory examination.
  • Maintains laboratory equipment and supplies by cleaning and maintaining quality assurance records.
  • Maintains a clean and sanitary work area in accordance with standard laboratory practice and procedures.
  • Conduct safe work practices in a Histology lab according to established guidelines and protocols.
  • Other duties as assigned;

SKILLED KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS:

Knowledge

  • Completion of Red River College first year MLT program, including the successful completion of MEDL-1052: Histotechnology 1, and MEDL-2052: Histotechnology 2 or equivalent
  • Medical terminology an asset.

Technical Skills

  • Previous experience in Histology or Cytology is an asset.
  • Good manual and finger dexterity, visual and aural acuity, and color discrimination.

  • Ability to multitask and work in a team environment.
  • Attention to detail and organizational skills are essential.
  • Ability to function in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Excellent communication skills

This position requires a current satisfactory Criminal Records Check (including Vulnerable Sector Search), Child Abuse Registry Check and Adult Abuse Registry Check as conditions of employment. The successful candidate will be responsible for any service charges incurred. A security check is considered current if it was obtained no more than six (6) months prior to the start of employment.
