The Data Governance Lead is responsible for driving enterprise data governance and Master Data Management practices that ensure data is trusted, governed, secure, and fit for business, regulatory, analytics, and AI needs. This role partners across business and technology teams to establish governance standards, data ownership, stewardship, controls, and accountability throughout the organization.
1. Data Governance Strategy, Framework and Operating Model
- Develop and mature the enterprise Data Governance framework, policies, standards, and operating model.
- Establish data ownership, stewardship, accountability, and governance processes across business domains.
- Align governance practices with Data Strategy, Architecture, Risk, Privacy, Security, Compliance, and Data Quality objectives.
2. Master Data Management Governance
- Lead governance for enterprise master and reference data domains.
- Define standards for ownership, stewardship, data quality, golden records, and lifecycle management.
- Ensure master data governance supports analytics, reporting, operational processes, and AI use cases.
3. Data Ownership, Stewardship and Governance Forums
- Partner with Data Owners and Stewards to strengthen accountability and governance adoption.
- Facilitate governance forums, issue resolution, and decision-making processes.
- Deliver training, communications, and guidance to improve data literacy and stewardship.
4. Metadata, Business Glossary, Data Lineage and Critical Data Elements
- Establish standards for metadata, business glossary, lineage, classification, and Critical Data Elements (CDEs).
- Ensure data definitions, ownership, lineage, and classifications are documented and maintained.
- Promote consistent business terminology and trusted data across the organization.
5. Governance Controls, Issue Management and Risk Integration
- Define governance controls and align practices with Risk, Compliance, Privacy, Security, and Data Quality requirements.
- Manage governance issues, risks, remediation activities, and audit requirements.
- Recommend improvements to governance policies, standards, and controls.
6. Governance Standards for Data Initiatives, Data Products and Platform Delivery
- Define governance requirements for data initiatives, analytics solutions, AI use cases, and data products.
- Embed governance controls throughout project and product delivery lifecycles.
- Partner with Architecture and Technology teams to integrate governance into enterprise data platforms.
7. Governance Tooling, Automation and AI Enablement
- Support implementation and adoption of governance, metadata, lineage, and MDM tools.
- Drive automation opportunities to improve governance efficiency, stewardship, and reporting.
- Evaluate and govern AI-enabled capabilities in alignment with enterprise standards.
8. Reporting, Metrics and Senior Stakeholder Communication
- Define governance metrics, dashboards, and performance reporting.
- Communicate governance risks, adoption progress, and maturity improvements to stakeholders.
- Recommend enhancements to governance processes, controls, tooling, and operating models.
The Data & Insights team serves as the enterprise center of excellence dedicated to enabling trusted, timely, and actionable information across the organization. We partner closely with business and technology stakeholders to modernize reporting ecosystems, elevate analytics capabilities, and strengthen data management practices. Our mandate spans standardizing metrics, enhancing data quality and governance, advancing analytics and automation, and supporting scalable data platforms that drive informed decision-making. By combining technical expertise with strong governance discipline and business alignment, we help transform data into meaningful insights that improve performance, mitigate risk, and support strategic outcomes.
You are someone with these required skills:
- Bachelor degree in Information Systems, Data Management, Computer Science, Business, Engineering, Analytics, or a related field.
- 8+ years of experience in Data Governance, Data Management, Data Quality, Metadata Management, MDM, Data Controls, or enterprise data transformation.
- 3+ years leading enterprise-wide data governance, data stewardship, metadata, master data, or control-related initiatives.
- Demonstrated experience designing and operationalizing Data Governance frameworks, operating models, policies, standards, stewardship models, ownership models, and governance forums.
- Demonstrated Master Data Management Governance experience, including governance of master data domains, golden source alignment, data standards, data models, survivorship rules, matching and merging rules, approval workflows, stewardship processes, and quality controls.
- Strong understanding of Critical Data Elements, business glossary, metadata management, data lineage, data classification, data ownership, data stewardship, access governance, and issue management.
- Experience embedding governance requirements into data platforms, data products, analytics assets, MDM platforms, cloud data environments, ETL or ELT pipelines, reporting assets, and operational processes.
- Experience with governance, catalog, data quality, metadata, MDM, or data management platforms such as Collibra, Informatica, Microsoft Purview, Atlan, Alation, SAP MDG, Ataccama, Talend, IBM InfoSphere,
- Databricks Unity Catalog, or equivalent.
- Strong SQL and data analysis skills, with the ability to understand data structures, lineage, source-to-target mappings, data rules, data models, and data quality outputs.
- Ability to partner with business, risk, technology, compliance, privacy, security, architecture, and analytics stakeholders to translate governance expectations into actionable practices.
- Strong facilitation, documentation, communication, executive presentation, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working in Agile, product, program, or transformation delivery environments using tools such as Jira, Confluence, Azure DevOps, SharePoint, or equivalent.
- Demonstrated ability to create clear documentation, playbooks, operating procedures, governance dashboards, decision materials, and senior stakeholder updates.
- Demonstrated experience leveraging modern AI tools to accelerate governance documentation, metadata analysis, policy interpretation, glossary development, issue analysis, and stakeholder communication.
It would be great for you to have some of these nice to have’s as well:
- Knowledge of DAMA-DMBOK, DCAM, EDM Council, ISO 8000, BCBS 239, GDPR, SOX, OSFI, privacy, financial services regulatory reporting, or equivalent data management and control frameworks.
- Experience leading governance adoption initiatives across business, analytics, engineering, risk, or platform teams.
- Relevant certifications such as CDMP, Collibra, Informatica, Microsoft Purview, SAP MDG, Databricks, Snowflake, DAMA, DCAM, or cloud and data management certifications.
- Experience with Azure, Databricks, Snowflake, AWS, GCP, Microsoft Fabric, or equivalent cloud and lakehouse platforms.
- Experience working in regulated industries such as financial services, professional services, public sector, healthcare, telecommunications, manufacturing, or energy.
- Experience designing or using AI agents for metadata enrichment, glossary development, data classification, lineage extraction, governance documentation, issue triage, or steward enablement.
The salary range for this position is $85,000 - $156,000, and individuals may be eligible to participate in our bonus program.
