SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
A person who assesses the functions of language, voice and speech. It determines a treatment and intervention plan and ensures its implementation with the aim of improving or restoring communication between the human being and his environment. She/he participates in clinical teaching.
REQUIREMENTS
Education:
• Master’s Degree in Speech Language Pathology;
• Member of the Ordre des orthophonistes et audiologistes du Québec (OOAQ).
Experience:
• Experience working with First Nations or in a cross-cultural context is an asset;
• Experience in remote areas is an asset;
• Experience in telepractice is an asset;
• Experience working with an interpreter is an asset.
Knowledge and Abilities:
• Ability to provide speech therapy interventions and training in English and with an interpreter/third person;
• Good professional record in speech therapy;
• Good knowledge of speech therapy theory and practice, current trends, the MSSS network and regulations;
• Knowledge of the culture, healing practices and paradigms, Cree language and health/social issues in Eeyou Istchee is an asset;
• Varied clinical skills;
• Ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment;
• Spirit of openness in terms of language, culture, values and beliefs;
• Ability to communicate theoretical and practical knowledge applied to training;
• Ability and willingness to transfer knowledge effectively to other staff;
• Sense of autonomy, flexibility, discretion and empathy;
• Excellent interpersonal communication, teamwork skills;
• Excellent critical thinking, synthesis, organization and decision-making skills;
• High adaptability.
Language:
• Fluent in English;
• Fluency in Cree and French is an asset.
Other:
• Willing to travel a minimum of 1 week per month to Eeyou Istchee if living outside the region.
