SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
Person who, without holding a social work technician diploma, carries out, within the limits of his skills and training, work of a similar and related nature to that of a social work technician.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
• Participates in the design, animation and evaluation of activities, teachings for youth;
• Ensures the learning and acquisition of Cree belief, values, attitudes and behaviours;
• Contributes to and is directly responsible for appropriate hygiene and safety standards dictated in policies and procedures, including taking the necessary steps in the prevention of health and safety difficulties and alerting the appropriate people in the ongoing maintenance and repairs to the building;
• Provides supervision of youth at all times;
• Works at all units at Reception Center as needed when no bush activities are scheduled;
• Prioritizes safety in the bush including following proper firearm safety protocols, securing hazardous items, safety around open fires, and open water;
• Respect of bush program and Youth Healing Services equipment, including proper use and storage of items, safe driving practice of motorized vehicles, etc.;
• Strong knowledge of Cree traditional cultural practices;
• Participates and attends team meetings;
• Organizes and participates in-group home outing, in and outside the community;
• Uses formal and informal counselling techniques within the limits of their skills and training;
• Works together in collaboration and cooperation with co-workers, family and community to provide whatever is necessary to the well-being and development of the youth;
• Observes confidentiality at all times and for all files.

REQUIREMENTS
Education:
• Must have a completed secondary 5 diploma from a recognized school by the competent ministry.

In the absence of applicants with the above-mentioned requirements, applicants with the below detailed requirements can be considered.

• No specific diploma.

Knowledge and Abilities:
• Good knowledge of child care and group care;
• Basic understanding of the services offered by the youth healing services and youth protection;
• Varied natural helper and social service clinical skills;
• Monitoring skills, sensitivity in coping with behaviour problems;
• Capacity to establish interpersonal relations;
• First hand knowledge of Cree culture and language, and social/health issues in Eeyou Istchee;
• Knowledge of Eenou/Eeyou Pimaatsiiun healing and helping practices and paradigms;
• Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills;
• Ability to identify and analyze client needs;
• Understanding of families and human relations;
• Excellent listening and communication skills;
• Sense of accountability, resourcefulness and vigilance;
• Analytical and good judgment;
• Excellent critical thinking and decision-making skills.

LANGUAGE
• Fluent in English and Cree;
• Fluency in French is an asset.


OTHER
• Valid driver’s permit class 5 meeting the standards of the Société d'assurance automobile du Québec and the Ministère des Transports du Québec;
• License in firearm safety, and a boat license (pleasure craft license), an asset;
• Must be occasionally available to work outside the regular working hours (availability);
• Must be occasionally available to travel;
• Schedule is 7 days on, 10 hours/day and 7 days off;
• This position may include on-call periods.
