SUMMARY OF THE POSITION
A person who carries out various research, inspection, training and control work related to prevention in order to ensure the safety of users and staff as well as that of property and buildings.

SPECIFIC FUNCTIONS
The incumbent of this position will work closely with the rest of the public health team in order to carry out the Cree Health Board program for Housing and Health. The incumbent will inspect housing conditions in all nine Cree communities, collect data and trends, and work closely with internal and external partners in order to implement corrective and preventative measures aimed at improving housing quality on the territory.

REQUIREMENTS
Education: Must hold a Diploma of Collegial Studies (DEC) in environmental techniques, occupational health and safety or another appropriate college discipline from a school recognized by the competent ministry.
Experience:
• Demonstrated experience with public safety, especially on housing-related matters;
• Knowledge of housing practices in Eeyou Istchee, building codes, and construction in general;
• Experience with community engagement and public speaking.

Knowledge and Abilities:
• Ability to work closely with internal and external partners, as well as to foster inter-organizational collaboration;
• Ability to communicate safety and prevention effectively with the public through various means (pamphlets, radio, activities, etc.);
• Good knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite;
• Knowledge of fire safety and fire-fighting procedures is a strong asset.

EMERGENCY RESPONSE
Collaborate with local team and community base partners could be asked from regional public health team, to participate in the response to a public health treat, known or emerging.

LANGUAGE
• Fluent in English and Cree;
• Fluency in French is considered a strong asset.

OTHER
• Must be available to travel frequently inside and outside of the Eeyou Istchee territory.
• All Public health department staff may be mobilized temporarily during a public health emergency.
• This position is currently being offered telework, subject to operational needs. Please note that this is not a permanent condition of the position and the employer reserves the right to request regular physical presence in the office.
• Work hours may vary accordingly to community partners needed;
• Emergency response: Collaborate with local team and community base partners could be asked from regional public health team, to participate in the response to a public health treat, known or emerging.
• All Public health department staff may be mobilized temporarily during a public health emergency. This is because health protection is binded by law to be involved in emergency responses- so we want to make it clear to employee that they might be mobilised, outside of there regular mandate, if there is a need
• The person might need to be on call- specially during the summer as smoke alert and sheltering in place is unpredictable.
