Job Summary

Effectively provide quality instruction in an inclusive manner that is developmentally appropriate and provides supervision that supports the objectives, philosophies and standards of instruction as per Squash Ontario and Squash Canada.

The key result is for all customers to have a positive experience, with the necessary instruction and supervision provided. The primary role is to educate customers on squash, act as a knowledgeable resource, ensure safety protocols are being implemented during the duration of the program/lesson, and promote a fun and friendly atmosphere.

Please note: This posting will be used to fill various vacancies over the coming months and therefore interviews will be offered when required. The recruitment of these positions is dependent on available vacancies and business needs.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Plan and provide instruction and squash lessons for adults and youth ranging from beginner to advanced levels. (Private and semi-private) in a safe and inclusive environment.
  • Information gathering of clients personal goals, history, related skills, current level of activity, etc.
  • Conduct a practical skills assessment on the client(s) to assess hand eye coordination, ability to move (forward, backward, laterally), level of fitness and racquet skills.
  • Create a safe and effective lesson plan specific to the needs to the client(s) using the IDEAS model promoted by Squash Ontario (Introduction, Demonstration, Explanation, Activity, Summary).
  • Ensure adequate equipment supplies are available and in working order and programming space is free of safety hazards.
  • Provide client(s) with instruction and correction that is inclusionary, respectful and developmentally appropriate to ensure success for the client(s).
  • Ensure proper storage and maintenance of equipment at the end of each lesson/clinic.
  • Responsible for managing challenging behaviours from clients/participants and providing first aid as required.
  • Plan and provide instruction for squash clinics and registered group instruction programs for adults.
  • Perform any required administrative duties and communicate any issues/information that impact quality and safety to the supervisor of Manager on Duty.
  • Effectively provide quality customer service and act as a knowledgeable resource to participants.
Skills and Qualifications

  • Must be an experienced squash player with formal theoretical knowledge and practical and technical skills required to teach beginning to advanced participants.
  • Must hold an NCCP Level 1 Coaching Certification or equivalent.
  • Must be enrolled in or have a Secondary School Diploma and have a minimum of 1 year of experience coaching/instructing squash.
  • Must hold a valid certificate for Emergency First Aid with CPR B at minimum.
  • Must have the technical proficiency to perform and teach different levels of participants and demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills.
  • Required to maintain certification and education standards as per Squash Ontario/Canada/World Federation Coach/Pro in good standing.
  • Stroke and feeding skills must be consistent and display a high skill level.
  • Strong written and verbal skills and program leadership skills.
  • Be able to provide verbal, visual and kinesthetic cues to accommodate all learning styles.
  • Explanations and instructions are clear and easy to understand.
  • Coaching skills are positive and encouraging in delivery tone.
  • Level 3 - Vulnerable Sector Check will be required of the successful candidate, at their own expense, to verify the absence of a criminal record for which a pardon has not been granted.

Hourly Rate/Salary: $25.65 - $34.20
Hours of Work: up to 24 hours per week
