Provide professional planning advice and recommendations to all levels of City staff, government, relevant agencies, the public and all other stakeholders, tribunals and courts to guide the growth and development of the City of Mississauga.
The City is looking to fill 1 Planner position in the City Planning Strategies Division of the Planning and Building Department.
- Lead special studies and local area plans on land use, zoning regulations and other development matters to manage growth and advance Council priorities
- Prepare and review official plan policies and amendments to official plan and zoning by-laws
- Research, analyze, monitor and report on planning-related data, trends, legislation and government/agency initiatives
- Develop policy frameworks and documents to implement Provincial policies and plans
- Develop and conduct effective consultations with other professionals, the public and interest groups and respond to public inquiries and comments
- Research, prepare and present reports on policy matters to City Council and Committees of Council
- Lead procurement of consultants and review background studies that are used as input for the special studies and local area plans
- Provide comments on development applications from a local area planning policy perspective
- Participate and represent the City Planning Strategies Division on inter-department and inter-agency projects and working groups
- Testify before the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT) as an Expert Witness
- Write reports, summaries, fact sheets, briefing notes, memoranda, presentations, web and other media content to communicate information
- Liaise with applicants, Councillors, City staff and other parties
- Perform other related duties as may be assigned
- University graduate - Urban Planning, Geography, Urban Design or related discipline
- A minimum of 4 years experience in a planning policy and/or development review role
- Knowledge of provincial planning legislation, policies and plans
- Experience preparing planning policy documents, land use studies/plans and/or official plan and zoning by-law amendments is required
- Highly developed problem solving, critical thinking, research, analytical, report writing, organization and project management skills are required
- Membership or eligibility for membership in Ontario Professional Planners Institute and Canadian Institute of Planners is preferred
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with an ability to create clear, concise reports and presentations
- Knowledge of planning trends, market conditions, and forecasting is an asset
- Experience using MS Office, SharePoint, presentation software and Adobe Acrobat
- Demonstrated ability to achieve project objectives in a timely manner
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Knowledge and experience in the preparation of expert evidence, or testifying before the OLT is an asset
- Must have the ability to travel and provide own transportation and be comfortable working flexible hours
Hourly Rate/Salary: $ 89,464.00 - $ 119,286.00
